Thanks to help from our friends at Project H Design, the San Francisco chapter of Engineers Without Borders, the Hippo Water Roller has been redesigned! The new and improved design is a two-part, nesting, stackable 'capsule' version of the iconic original, which facilitates the safe and efficient transport of water in the developing world. The new design has been optimized for shipping efficiency, enabling three times as many Hippos to fit in the same space!
To make the tooling for the new Hippo, we're launching the $25 x 200 Campaign, asking 200 supporters to contribute $25 each to help us cover the cost of manufacturing the new mold. Once it's finished, we'll be able to deliver life changing Hippos more cost-effectively, enabling us to reach people in need all over the world!
Please click here to donate $25 and help us redesign the Hippo!

March was a busy month for us – Cynthia travelled to South Africa with Josh Dick, a professional photographer, and Pete Macomber, a professional filmmaker. Over the course of 2 weeks (and 2,500 miles), they delivered Hippos to the communities of Bukwini in the Eastern Cape and Kgautswane in Mpumalanga. Please visit www.joshdickphoto.com to see some of Josh’s work from the trip click on the South Africa links.

According to the United Nations, 978 people have died as a result of the cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe. Up to 60,000 people could become infected if it is not contained soon.
Thanks to help from the South African supermarket chain, 'Pick `n Pay,' we’re working with the Red Cross to distribute Hippo Rollers together with a water purification solution to provide clean water to Zimbabwean and South African families who have been affected by the crisis.
This combination of a Hippo Roller and a small 10ml bottle of solution enable families to collect 24 gallons (90 litres) of water from contaminated sources without fear of contracting cholera.
To date, we have delivered 50 Hippos and 1,500 bottles of water purification solution - enough to purify 150,000 litres of contaminated water.

Ben Thompson has been donating his expertise in branding to help us strengthen our message and get the Hippo word out. Hippo cards are already in the mail, and look out for Hippo t-shirts in the near future!

We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to play a role in Project 10^100, a new Google initiative designed to find and fund fresh ideas that have a broad and beneficial impact on people's lives. "These ideas can be big or small, technology-driven or brilliantly simple -- but they need to have impact," said Google in a press release. "We know there are countless brilliant ideas that need funding and support to come to fruition."
Google singled out the Hippo Water Roller as an example of the type of innovation Project 10^100 is interested in supporting. You can read more about Project 10^100 on CNN.com (www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/biztech/09/24/google.project/index.html), and watch the animated video (which includes the Hippo Water Roller!) at: www.project10tothe100.com.
